A promising high school pitcher in Taiwan, Liu wore down from overuse and
took a two-year break from the mound while playing shortstop at Culture
University. He resumed pitching in 2019 and hit 98 mph with his fastball in
September, then earned MVP honors at the Asian Baseball Championship in
October while leading Chinese Taipei to its first title in eight years. The
Red Sox, who had scouted him as an infielder and knew him well from his
relationship with Tzu-Wei Lin, signed him for $750,000 in November.

Liu operates at 92-96 mph with riding action on his four-seam fastball. He
also can overpower hitters with a slider that sits at 86-88 mph and shows
flashes of becoming a plus pitch. His mid-80s splitter has similar upside if
less consistency, and some evaluators prefer it to his slider.

Though he's somewhat small for a starting pitcher, Liu has a clean delivery
and repeats it well. The athleticism that made him a prospect as a
switch-hitting shortstop helps him produce quality stuff and strikes without
much effort. Boston likes his feel for pitching and may have him work on a
curveball to give him a softer option in his repertoire.

高中就是個很有潛力的投手，不過因為過度使用在大學休了兩年，去年9月回到投手丘上投到98mph，之後拿到亞錦賽的MVP，幫助中華隊拿下冠軍，在劉致榮還是內野手的時候就派球探看過他，也因為林子偉的關係對他有深入了解的紅襪隊在去年11月用75萬美金簽下了劉致榮

92-96mph速球，偶爾展現了plus級潛力的滑球，天花板與滑球相近但更不穩的指叉球，有些球探比較喜歡後者

雖然劉致榮的身材以先發投手來說有點矮小，不過他有著簡潔的投球姿勢而且維持得很好，足以轉成游擊手的運動能力也能幫助他不費勁地製造出優質的stuff以及好球，紅襪隊很喜歡劉致榮投球的感覺，可能會要求他多練一顆曲球
