What happens if there is no resolution to his case within those seven days?

MLB can request a one-time extension of its administrative leave for an additional seven days with consent from the MLB Players Association. The joint domesticviolence policy states that consent "shall not be unreasonably withheld." The calendar might be relevant here.

An extension of the current administrative leave would keep Bauer off the field through the All-Star break, buying even more time for an ongoing investigation. The expectation, however, is that this could take a while, possibly putting MLB in a position where Bauer must return to the active roster while the investigation continues. The administrative leave might merely delay that reality. The commissioner's office has the right to request an additional extension of that leave time in order for the investigation to wrap up, but the MLBPA must agree to that too.
