The Toronto Maple Leafs are honoured to announce the signing of Ayami Sato, oneof the best pitchers in the world, who will make history as the first woman to play professional baseball in Canada!

Sato, a six-time world champion, has pitched for Team Japan throughout her career and is the only woman to win three consecutive MVP awards in 2014, 2016, and 2018 to go along with two All-Star selections at the Women’s Baseball World Cup.

The deal for Sato marks the second big signing in the IBL for the upcoming campaign. Last week, the Hamilton Cardinals signed former All-Star closer and 2019 World Series champ Fernando Rodney to a deal for the 2025 season.
