Three months ago, you were but a stranger to the Taiwanese. We had gotten used to being marginalized by the international society, that we didn’t even care who was the Secretary-General of the UN, let alone you, the head of an affiliate organization. On January 13, 2020, the WHO stated in a press release on the Wuhan virus now known as COVID -19 that “The genetic sequencing shared by China enables more countries to rapidly diagnose patients.”
This was the first time you publicly praised China for it’s contributions in preventing COVID-19 from spreading. From that day on you did not cease to flatter China, as if you were born and raised there, choosing to ignore the fact that on January 18, a banquet of forty thousand families was held in Wuhan, resulting in mass group infections. China concealed all reports about the epidemic starting from Case 1, silencing the whistleblower Wen Liang Li and neglecting the fact that their people were in lack
of proper knowledge about the virus and were virtually spreading it across the globe. If the Communist Chinese Party had taken action immediately, 95% of the pandemic now would not have happened. As Director-General of the WHO, you chose to ignore the fact that COVID-19 had already spread all around the world and cared only about if the Communist Chinese Party were pleased or not. That was when you were first known by the Taiwanese. Then, your further negligence and ignorance exacerbated our disgust in
your comments on several occasions:
January 14, believing Chinese official statements, saying that the virus is not contagious from person to person.
January 23, referring to the epidemic as merely a public health emergency in China and does not pose a threat to world health. Praising China for reacting to and sharing information timely, showcasing their high transparency.
January 25, continuing to assess COVID-19 as “moderate risk”, claiming that the issue would not worsen.
January 28, opposing against nations to withdraw their citizens resided in China, believing that the Communist Chinese Party has the situation under control.
February 3, regarding reduction of traveling and activities as overreacting, unnecessary and extreme. Claiming there is no need to cancel flights to/from China and close borders
February 9, stating that in fact there may be mass group infections.
February 11, stating that China’s condition is not severe and that other nations should take the virus seriously instead.
February 19, praising China publicly for it’s sacrifice to save the world and claiming that besides China, there are only 92 cases of COVID-19 person-to-person infections in 12 countries. Stating that other than particular cases such as the Diamond Princess, domestic propagation is not found.
February 21, stating that it is encouraging to know that the number of cases in China has significantly decreased
February 24, insisting that to regard COVID-19 as “pandemic” is inappropriate.March 2, reiterating that COVID-19 is not pandemic.
March 11, declaring COVID-19 a pandemic and that all needed preparations should be taken.
Do you want to discuss about discrimination? Taiwan does not discriminate black people. Taiwan is the one that is discriminated by your second home country, China. Maybe you pulled some strings to get to the position you are holding now, so you know nothing about Taiwan. However, you must know that because we are located right next to the very origin of COVID-19, we have done all we could to keep the epidemic at bay. Our criticism on you is definitely not discrimination, but indignation towards an
incompetent, flattering politician that has no principles and talks his way out of of a crisis.
Real discrimination occurred in a lunar new year’s TV show in China, the country you love so much. Performers from Africa shared the stage with 鄭愷,婁乃鳴,大兵. These African performers spoke fluent Chinese on the show. The main story line was about China constructing railways in Africa, while Africans fantasized about studying in China or marrying rich people . To conclude the show, it praised the cooperation between China and Africa and that the African people were so grateful that they shed tears
of gratitude. Chinese actress 婁乃鳴 smeared her face black and enlarged her buttocks to play a black person while another African performer played the role of a monkey, pleasing the Chinese. Now THAT is what real discrimination looks like. I wonder if you have ever seen this show. As for Taiwan, we have just helped an international student from Ethiopia(which is your true home country) in March by raising funds for his surgery. The World Vision Association in Taiwan and Taiwan Fund for Children and
Families have adopted countless orphans from your country, lifting them from poverty. Have you not seen all these efforts?
Dear Director-General of the WHO, because of your incompetence, adulation and negligence, the number of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 all around the world have reached 1,446,557 with 83,149 of them deceased, excluding those that are still concealed by the Communist Chinese Party, and yet you dare accuse us of discrimination? Do not be confused, criticism is not discrimination.
Last and not least, please try to see the efforts Taiwan has made and listen to advice that is not from China.
If you continue to insist that we are politicizing the virus, we can only wish you a long life, since there is a saying in Mandarin that goes: “Good people die young while evil lives long.”
