NPB Rumors: Murakami, Okamoto, Imai

Here is the 10/14 update on the Top 3 NPB names this offseason—Munetaka Murakami, Kazuma Okamoto, Tatsuya Imai.

Munetaka Murakami - 1B, 3B, DH

The Mets, Red Sox, Rangers, Mariners, and Giants have strong interest. The Yankees and Dodgers do not have the same level of interest in Murakami as per a few sources. Both teams could be sitting this one out and chasing better fits for their roster than the star brand.

Murakami does have a West Coast preference and he is willing to play on the East Coast for a team like the Yankees. With his teams narrowing a bit, we could see the number of teams he is willing to play for expanding.

A few sources have said that the Giants have an edge for Murakami during the early part of the year, and that still remains like a likely destination.

We have also heard that the Lions are leaning towards posting him this offseason—that’s new since we have heard that they weren’t that open to it in recent weeks. The Lions are known to make odd decisions so it’s really a wait and see with them.

The Padres are favorites for Imai as of now and the Yankees interest could justbe them feeling things out on the market—they do show interest in players theydo not plan to sign from Japan often.
